I hope everyone is enjoying their PD Day. We had a great week working on fractions and exploring fair share problems, creating some beautiful winter art with water colours and exploring friction in science. Valentine's Day is coming up. Students will be able to exchange Valentine's Cards with each other, we just ask that if your child is going to hand out cards that they include everyone in the classroom. I will send home a class list with everyone's name next week to help with this. Enjoy your weekend!
It has been a busy 2 weeks. We have continued with our UFLI lessons and the students have shown lots of improvements with their phonemic awareness. We have also begun focusing on answering questions about texts we are reading being sure to answer in complete sentences and provide proof for our answers. We are exploring parts of speech with an emphasis on nouns and verbs currently.
In math we are learning a lot about fractions in various contexts such as an area, length, mass, capacity and group. This can be a challenge unit for some and I encourage you to explore fractions as home in real world context such as cooking and baking or sharing items that would need to be divided up into equal portions. Our focus in science has been on forces and in gym we are learning about curling. Last week we had an opportunity to go sledding and had a blast. I'll keep an eye on the weather and hopefully we will get some more snow and be able to go again. Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great winter break. We jumped right back in with two feet. Monday we discussed Epiphany and created some art on the computer focusing on the 3 wisemen. In language this week our focus in UFLI has been on the soft c and g sounds. We started a new math unit on fractions. In science we began to explore forces and in phys ed we are learning about curling. Thanks to everyone for getting the sledding forms back in quickly. I will send out an email about when we are planning on going so you will know when to send in helmets. Monday is United in Black and students are encouraged to wear black that day. Tuesday is library day so please send in any library books you have at home.
We have made it to Christmas break! The students have had a fun week with lots of different activities. Our Nativity project was completed and has been uploaded to Hapara. All the students know how to find it and would love to share their hard work with you. You will also find our 1000 piece advent puzzle that we have been working on all month. It was a really fun activity and provided a different type of countdown to Christmas. We also completed the Christmas Escape room which was challenging and fun.
I would like to wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! |
