It was a great week leading up to March Break. We wrapped up our unit on 3D shapes and when we are back after the break we will be jumping into multiplication and division. We are participating in March Madness Picture Books this month and submitted our class picks for which books should make it out of the first bracket. Everyone is very excited to find out which books move on when we return. We have continued to explore forces and are currently focused on how they cause objects to change speed, shape, direction and distance. In phys Ed we have learned about sledge hockey and discovered a new appreciation for the strength para athletes have. We had a lot of fun learning about Leprechauns and after much searching at recess there is a rumor that perhaps a Leprechaun city is located under the school yard.
Thank you to everyone who donated items for our schools Lenten Project and supporting North of 60. We will have library the Tuesday we are back from break. I hope everyone has a relaxing and safe March Break! Another week down, another week of learning. We are wrapping up our math unit on 3D shapes. It is always a fun unit with lots of hands on manipulatives and new math vocabulary. In language we are continuing with our reading responses as we read a new novel. In science, we explored static electricity which is always fun making our hair stand up.
Next week is our last week prior to March Break so we will have a spirit day each week: Monday, March 4th: PJ Day - Wear your comfy PJs, slippers, and house coat. Tuesday, March 5th: Twin Day, Triplet Day, Quadruplet Day. Get as many people together and dress the same. Wednesday, March 6th: Wacky Wear Day - crazy hair and clothes that don’t match. Thursday, March 7th: Hat Day. Friday, March 8th: Sports Day/Jersey Day/St. James Spiritwear Day Also please send in any donations for our Lenten Project: North of 60. We are collecting 284 ml cans of Campbell Soup (chicken noodle, cream of mushroom, or tomato) and 905 gram boxes of Pearl Milling Company Pancake Mix: add water only (no eggs). Thank you for your support! I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and the short week we had. Even with the short week we were able to continue learning about the properties of 3D shapes. We started using the Venn Diagram to sort 3D shapes based on these various properties and started to build and explore skeletons of prisms and pyramids. We continued to discuss the Season of Lent and what our Lenten promise might be. You are also welcome to send in any pancake mix or soup can donations for our school wide Lenten Project anytime you'd like. Finally we continued to explore magnets noticing that they don't actually have to touch objects in order to attract them.
Next week is our Library week so please send in any books that are at home. Have a great week. We had a fun and very full week! Two major focuses for this week were the beginning of Lent (Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday) and of course Valentine's Day. We spend some time exploring what Lent is, why it happens and what the 3 pillars are. The school also had its Ash Wednesday Liturgy with students receiving their ashes.
Language focused on -tch and -dge sounds and the fact that they both follow short vowel sounds. We continue to work on restating the question and starting to add in proof to support our answers. In math we explored our different 3D shapes, learning how to name them, determining what shape is what and the different properties of each category of shape. We were able to wrap up our week with snowshoeing and exploring magnets in science. Reminder that Monday is a holiday so enjoy the long weekend! |
