April Showers bring...more snow it would appear! Pretty crazy week with the snow the last two days but it has been great for students to be able to build outside. I have seen some pretty big snow people in the school yard! Another short week kicked off with a presentation called "Be an All-Star". Tons of fun and lots of cool basketball tricks and balancing acts. We focused a lot on division this week and are working to understand what it means and when we might use it. We have started back with our UFLI lessons and exploring natural forces in science.
Reminder that Monday is a PD Day and the solar eclipse. As well we have library on Tuesday so please send in any books from home. Enjoy your weekend! Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful and fun March Break. We have jumped right back into the thick of things and have had a fun week.
In our March Madness of books we are down to the final 4 books. Some disappointment when we discovered that 3 of our 4 top picks didn't advance but we have had some incredible conversations about these picture books. I encourage you to ask your child about the "Tree and the River". Considering it is a book with no words, we had a 45 minute conversation with some incredible connections, insight and ideas. In math we have begun to work on multiplication and division. Currently we are looking at what multiplication means and the various ways it can be represented. We will do the same with division and then look at problem solving with these two operations. In physical education we are starting to develop our basketball skills. In science we are beginning to wrap up our study of forces looking this week at how forces affect items and changes in distance, speed and direction. Turns out that we have library next week so please send in library books to return them on Tuesday. It is also Holy week next week and we will be doing a lot of religion centered around all the events from Palm Sunday up to Easter. It was a great week leading up to March Break. We wrapped up our unit on 3D shapes and when we are back after the break we will be jumping into multiplication and division. We are participating in March Madness Picture Books this month and submitted our class picks for which books should make it out of the first bracket. Everyone is very excited to find out which books move on when we return. We have continued to explore forces and are currently focused on how they cause objects to change speed, shape, direction and distance. In phys Ed we have learned about sledge hockey and discovered a new appreciation for the strength para athletes have. We had a lot of fun learning about Leprechauns and after much searching at recess there is a rumor that perhaps a Leprechaun city is located under the school yard.
Thank you to everyone who donated items for our schools Lenten Project and supporting North of 60. We will have library the Tuesday we are back from break. I hope everyone has a relaxing and safe March Break! Another week down, another week of learning. We are wrapping up our math unit on 3D shapes. It is always a fun unit with lots of hands on manipulatives and new math vocabulary. In language we are continuing with our reading responses as we read a new novel. In science, we explored static electricity which is always fun making our hair stand up.
